Practical packing list for your upcoming procedure in Mexico.
Preparing for your medical journey abroad is an exciting and transformative step—one that marks the beginning of a healthier chapter in your life. While it’s normal to feel a little nervous, being well-prepared can ease your mind and ensure your trip is as smooth and stress-free as possible.
Choose the Right Luggage
We recommend traveling with a carry-on, wheeled suitcase if possible. If you must check a bag, make sure it’s lightweight and easy to roll—avoid lifting anything over 30 pounds, especially after your procedure.
Arrange for someone to assist you when you return home.
Leave valuables at home — including jewelry and any piercings or accessories that must be removed before your procedure.
Medications & Medical Info
Bring all current medications in their original containers.
Pack a notebook and pen to jot down any questions or notes.
Include throat lozenges to ease discomfort after anesthesia.
Clothing Essentials
Pack loose, comfortable clothing to support your recovery and maximize comfort.
Here’s what we suggest:
- Pajamas or lightweight loungewear.
- A robe or oversized jumper for travel home.
- Slip-on shoes or sandals (no bending over!).
- Flip-flops for the shower.
- Comfortable underwear and extra socks.
Pro Tip: Choose outfits with elastic waistbands and soft fabrics that won’t irritate incisions.
Personal Hygiene & Toiletries
Be sure to bring:
- Toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash.
- Hairbrush or comb.
- Basic skincare, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant.
- Female sanitary products (tampons may be uncomfortable post-op).
- Chapstick for dry lips.
- Travel-size body wipes for freshening up.
Having these documents organized and readily available will help prevent unnecessary delays and keep your focus where it belongs—on healing and recovery.
Entertainment & Electronics
Recovery time means rest—but it’s helpful to have entertainment on hand:
- Smartphone, tablet, or small laptop.
- Headphones or earbuds.
- Books, magazines, or audiobooks.
- Don’t forget chargers and power banks.
Travel Documentation
Don’t forget:
- Valid passport (recommended for all international travelers).
- OR alternate ID (only if previously approved by your Go Med Pro coordinator).
Always carry your ID and documentation in your personal bag for easy access.
Optional Comfort Items
For extra comfort, especially during travel or downtime:
- Neck pillow for your flight or car ride.
- Earplugs and a sleep mask.
- A warm sweater or light jacket (hospitals and planes can be chilly).
- A small backpack or tote bag as your personal carry-on.
