Planning to travel to Mexico for a medical procedure?
Whether you’re considering a weight loss treatment, cosmetic surgery, or another health-related procedure, being prepared with the right travel documents is essential.
At Go Med Pro, we want your journey to be smooth from start to finish—starting with stress-free travel through the border or airport.
Passport Requirements
A valid passport is the most important document you’ll need for traveling to Mexico for your medical procedure. Here’s what you should know:
- Your passport must be current and valid for at least 6 months beyond your return date.
- If you don’t have a passport yet or it has expired, we highly recommend applying for expedited processing to avoid delays.
Having a passport simplifies your travel experience and ensures full compliance with Mexican immigration requirements.
Alternative Identification Options (U.S. Travelers)
While a passport is strongly recommended, there are limited alternative options for U.S. citizens traveling by land—especially near border regions like Tijuana.
However, these options should only be used
with prior approval from your Go Med Pro coordinator.
Acceptable alternatives include:
- U.S. Passport Card
- REAL ID or Enhanced Driver’s License
- Valid Driver’s License plus your original U.S. Birth Certificate (no copies).
(Photocopies are not accepted. We recommend also bringing a utility bill and a social security card that match your ID.).
Important: These options are typically valid for land border crossings only and may not apply for air travel. Always check with your coordinator first
Additional Recommended Documents
To ensure a smooth travel and check-in process, we also suggest bringing:
- Printed confirmation of your procedure and itinerary.
- Emergency contact information.
- Medical history form or any documents your doctor may request.
- Health or travel insurance documentation (if applicable).
- A list of any medications you’re currently taking.
Having these documents organized and readily available will help prevent unnecessary delays and keep your focus where it belongs—on healing and recovery.
Traveling from Canada or Other Countries?
If you’re flying to Mexico from Canada, the UK, or any other country, please make sure:
- Your passport is valid for at least 6 months.
- You meet any visa requirements based on your nationality.
For the most accurate travel entry guidelines, consult your country’s official travel department.
